Founded in 1909 by the Carlson Brothers, Philip and William, this division of International Harvester Corporation first operated as a small carriage repair shop on Main Street. The company later relocated to Kossuth Street where plant facilities eventually occupied 21 acres and five buildings equaling 500,000 square feet. Metropolitan Body manufactured all steel, double capacity truck bodies and received orders from as far way as Venezuela, Norway, Australia, and the Philippines.
